While the benefits of attending a yoga class are great, the truth is that I can’t always make it to the studio. I also have been dealing with an injury and feel like I have to skip half the class. This past winter I learned how to snowboard which was a huge challenge for me and I injured my wrist early in the season. Then I spent 8 full weeks in a brace unable to use my left wrist at all! I am now out of the brace and have minimal pain but I still can’t hold my body weight on my wrist which eliminates a lot of my yoga practice. Or so I thought…

healthy lasagna soup


Oh lasagna, how I love you so. 
But the fat and cholesterol in traditional lasagna are a big no-no. 

So what’s a hungry girl do to? 
Make a yummy soup that’s good for you too! 

Seriously, who doesn’t love lasagna?! Even Garfield knew a good thing when he ate it. But it may not have been that healthy so you shouldn’t really eat it often. What if you could take the great taste of lasagna and make it easy and healthy enough to eat all the time?! I would call that a Winner Winner, Lasagna Dinner.


1 tbs olive oil
2 closes garlic
8 oz whole wheat lasagna noodles
1 can dices tomato
1 cup tomato sauce
2 cups vegetable broth
1 1/2 cup water
2 Tablespoons fresh basil
1 Tablespoon fresh oregano
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes * optional



in a large saucepan, combine olive oil and garlic and cook over low heat for 2-3 minutes. add next five ingredients and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until noodles are cooked per package directions. add fresh basil, oregano and pepper flakes and simmer additional 5 minutes. garnish and serve immediately.

Ashlee - Gah, this looks so yummy! I LOVE me some lasagna. Haven’t had a vegan lasagna since I’ve become dairy-free. I’ll have to try this one!

Lovlie - I have to say that’s the yummiest tomato based soup I’ve ever seen. I’m not really a tomato soup person but that soup, I would wholeheartedly love to try!

this Valentine’s Day is for the birds! diy bird-feeder

While so much of the country is buried in snow and we should be, it’s really summer-like here right now. Our cute birds are out early and hungry so we decided to do something about it and make them all natural diy bird-feeders to hang in the trees. With Valentine’s Day this week we made hearts and X and O’s, but the X’s cracked so we have hearts and O’s- ha ha I don’t think the birds will mind though.


1 part coconut oil
2 parts bird seed – we used a wild birdseed mix that had nuts and fruit in it


cookie cutters
tin foil
sauce pan
toothpick or skewer
hemp string or twine


over very  low heat, melt coconut oil. remove from heat and stir in birdseed and allow to cool. wrap the outside of cookie cutters with tinfoil (to keep the oil in as it cools) then spoon mixture into cutters and press contents down slightly. insert toothpick or skewer and place in freezer for 5-10 minutes until hardened. remove from cookie cutter, add string and hang in tree.

Not going to lie, I freaking love nachos! Especially the kind of nachos that are guilt free and use fresh healthy ingredients. Using fresh tomato, green onion, cilantro, lime and corn create a flavor explosion worthy to the be the center of your Super Bowl party spread.

Place additional topping into separate containers and allow guests to customize their plates. All anyone will notice is the great taste, they won’t miss the fat and cholesterol at all, I promise!



10 ounce bag organic tortilla chips
1/2 cup Daiya cheddar shreds
/2 cup frozen corn, thawed
1/2 cup black beans, drained and rinsed

additional topping choices:
black olives
green onion
Sour supreme
jalapeno peppers
pico de gallo
lime wedges or juice
Cholula or other hot sauce


layer first 4 ingredients on a large cookie sheet or casserole dish, place under low broiler for aproximately 10 minutes or just until diaya cheese melts and corn is lightly browned. top with toppings of choice and serve immediately.

Ashlee - I have never heard of Daiya and just went to explore their website! Oh. My. God. I’m in love! I’m about to spend way too much money on their fake cheese.
